We’ve all seen him as the man left for dead in a cold planet in Christopher Nolan’s Sci-Fi masterpiece ‘Interstellar’ from last year. This time he unites with Ridley Scott (Alien/Prometheus) to reprise that role but this time in the red planet.
Damon plays the role of Mark Watney, an astronaut who gets left out in the field by his crew after a vicious storm occurs in Mars during a manned mission. Despite the terrible incident, Watney survives. Being stranded in the planet, he must find various ways to survive with limited supplies. The role is certainly interesting as it tells a story of bravery and boldness. One aspect we’ve seen from his role from Interstellar, but will further get developed in The Martian. From the looks of it, Ridley Scott’s latest film seems to be akin to ‘Gravity’ which is yet another cinematic great from this era. Matt Damon is a very versatile actor who’s played vastly different roles ranging from action movies to dramas, but his portrayal as Mark Watney is something new. With Drew Goddard’s terrific writing and Damon’s superb acting, I’m well damn sure that Damon will bring realism to Watney and to evoke emotions to the audience.
