Jesse Eisenberg may just be one of the most lovable, weird yet charismatic actors out there. The dude has played different geeky, socially-awkward roles that we all delighted in, and even some serious characters to get us engrossed. With the most notable one being his arrogant, spot-on portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. But before all that, we knew him (well, some of us) as James Brennan in 2009’s Adventureland with Kristen Stewart and in the zombie comedy Zombieland, also released in the same year.
In the latest action/comedy/thriller American Ultra, Jesse Eisenberg gives us the best of both worlds by being a bad-ass action star and a good ol’ easy-living store clerk simultaneously. Basically, he transform from being your everyday slacker to an awesome, skilled agent.
In American Ultra, a government agent posing as a store clerk slash stoner gets targeted for extermination by the government and is marked as a liability. Unbeknownst to them, he is highly-trained and too stoned for them to handle.
To give you an idea, American Ultra will be playing on the concept of the infamous Project MKUltra; an illegal, grim experimentation of the CIA on human subjects that uses mind control to obtain information from the interrogations. However, it seems that the movie will give it a fun and thrilling twist, rather than a disturbing depiction of what it really looks like when the person is under its’ effects. Since we have the lovable weirdo Jesse Eisenberg as the lead, it is easy to tell that it will be one amusing hell of a cinematic ride. American Ultra has been widely described as a “mishmash of different genres” crammed altogether to make one amazing piece of entertainment. For stoners, you’d be absolutely delighted by Jesse Eisenberg’s stoner character who’s just really high. Romantics longing for sweet lovey-dovey will find a heartwarming yet explosive love story at its’ core in Mike Howell and Phoebe, who make a great tandem. Viewers looking for laughs will definitely find what they’re looking for, since this is naturally a comedy. Most excitingly though, thrill seekers looking for action won’t be disappointed since it’ll be filled with that and yes, there will be blood; a lot of it. That just means that bullets will be-a-blazin’ and blood will be spilling. So, yes American Ultra will most definitely be enjoyed by anyone and anybody. The film is directed by Nima Nourizadeh, who brought us the teen-party flick Project X, while Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis will be the scribe. Other stars who will be joining Jesse and Kristen are Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3), Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), Walton Goggins (Django Unchained), John Leguizamo (John Wick), and Bill Pullman (Independence Day).
“American Ultra” will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide on October 28, 2015 Wednesday. The MTRCB rating is yet to be determined.
