In spite of all the reckless backlash that the Academy hastily received, it is now official that African-American actor/comedian/filmmaker will still proceed to host the 88th Academy Awards.
It has been reported that Rock has been pressured to leave the hosting duties but Reginald Hudlin, the producer of the Academy Awards stated that Rock will still continue hosting the ceremony and will address the #OscarsSoWhite controversy during his opening monologue.
Hudlin stated that “Chris is hard at work,” “He and his writing staff locked themselves in a room. As things got a little provocative and exciting, he said, ‘I’m throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show.'”
Hudlin went on to express that he has utter faith in the comedian to “deliver something that people will be talking about for weeks,” noting the Academy is not only ready but excited for what he has planned. “They know that’s what we need. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want.”
So… after all the criticism and Rock’s own judgment surrounding the controversial issue, it seems like he still wants the show to go on with him on board. Only this time, he’ll be adding a little more spice to heat things up.
The 88th Academy Awards will be hosted by Chris Rock and will be airing on February 28th.
